Eleven militants from two outfits, including four from the banned United Liberation Front of Assom, were arrested by the police from different parts of Guwahati on Monday.

The Assam police also recovered incriminating documents and cash from the arrested militants. Eight of the arrested militants belonged to the Adivasi militants group, the All Adivasi National Liberation Army. The police claim that the militants had sneaked into the city.

The ULFA has been serving extortion notices to a large number of people in Guwahati. After receiving information about the extortion drive by the ULFA, the police have stepped up their surveillance and conducted raids in different parts of the city.

The AANLA had vowed to get tough with those locals who were involved in the attack on Adivasi protestors at Beltola area in Guwahati on November 24.
