PM chairs meeting to review security

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] on Sunday night chaired a high-level meeting to assess the security scenario in the aftermath of Saturday night's twin blasts in Hyderabad that left 42 dead.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who briefed the prime minister about his visit to the Andhra Pradesh capital earlier in the day, the prime minister's media advisor Sanjaya Baru said.

The meeting was also attended by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Director of the Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar.

Earlier, Patil met Dr Singh on his return from the Andhra Pradesh capital and apprised him of the situation in Hyderabad, official sources said.

Earlier in the day, Patil visited the site of the blasts and also took stock of the security situation in the state.
