Reopening of Srikrishna panel report will spark riots: BJP August 23, 2007 19:50 IST
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday accused the Congress of trying to trigger Hindu-Muslim riots ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections by trying to reopen the controversial Srikrishna Commission report. Senior BJP leader V K Malhotra said the recent directive by Sonia Gandhi [Images] to the Maharashtra Government to reopen the case was prompted by votebank politics. "There is no need to reopen this report now. The Congress government itself did not act on it," Malhotra said. "Its timing is intriguing. The Congress is trying to trigger Hindu-Muslim riots so that it can gain something from it in Gujarat elections. It wants that innocent Hindus should be victimised," Malhotra said.
