A minor fire broke out in the Lok Sabha deputy speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal's chamber in Parliament Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire, caused by a short circuit, was quickly brought under control, but not without causing some tense moments since the chamber is a few metres away from the prime minister's chamber and is sandwiched between Bharatiya Janata Party leaders A B Vajpayee and L K Advani's rooms.

No one was hurt in the fire, which began in the air-conditioning shaft and was quickly put down by the Delhi fire brigade and the Central Reserve Police force.
