The Allahabad high court on Monday stayed the arrest of the grandson, son and three other members of Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's [Images] family in an alleged dowry harassment case.

Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and V K Verma also asked the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant Madhvendra Singh to file their counter-affidavits.

Madhvendra Singh had lodged an FIR in Chandausi police station in Moradabad on July 29 alleging that his daughter Priyanka, who is married to the Union minister's grandson Abhijeet singh, was tortured and harassed for dowry by her husband and in-laws.

Arjun Singh, Abhijeet, the minister's son Abhimanyu Singh and three other members of the family were named in the FIR.

All of them except Arjun Singh had moved the high court requesting a stay on their arrest as they had been "falsely implicated".
