Vadodara villages asked to evacuate

Many villages in Gujarat's Vadodara district have been asked to evacuate following the release of 5.5 lakh cusecs from Kadana dam and 1.5 lakh cusecs from Panam dam into the Mahisager river.

Officials on Wednesday said after the release of water, the level swelled downstream, threatening many villages in Padra taluka and those near Vadodara city.

The villages under threat in Padra taluka are Pelhore, Pavda, Sultanpur, Mehmadpura, Kareda, Nalka, Chokhari, Jaspur, Umraya and Mojpur. Those near the city are Sindhrod and Fazalpur villages.

In the Savli taluka, Gulabpura, Vakanav, Jhalapur and Vagpura villages are under threat.
