Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament Babubhai Katara was on Thursday brought to his native town Dahod by a Delhi Police team which conducted searches at his house and office as part of the probe into the human trafficking case allegedly involving him, police sources said.

The tribal leader was taken to Dahod this morning amid tight security. The police team first went to a school run by an NGO headed by Katara in Chitrodia village of Dahod district, they said.

He was then taken to his house in Zahlod town where police conducted extensive searches.

Police then went to his office in the same town. His under-construction property was also surveyed by the team, the sources said.

The Delhi team was assisted by the local police. Outcome of the searches and seizure of documents, if any, were not provided by the police.

Katara was brought by a train and kept away from mediapersons. He has been charged with trying to smuggle out a woman and a teenaged boy to Canada using the passport of his wife and son. Katara is a two-time MP from tribal-dominated Dahod contituency in South Gujarat.
