BJP suspends Gujarat MP Onkar Singh in New Delhi | April 18, 2007 14:30 IST Last Updated: April 18, 2007 17:35 IST Bharatiya Janata Party MP Babubhai Katara has been suspended on Wednesday, according to senior party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra. Katara allegedly tried to take a woman to Canada on his wife's passport. He was detained by immigration officials when they found out that the woman who was travelling with him on his wife's passport was Paramjeet and not his spouse, Saradaben. They were to board Air India flight 187 to Toronto, which was scheduled to depart at 7.30 am. Immigration officials detained the two for questioning and later handed them over to the police. Katara is an MP from Dahod, a reserved constitutency for scheduled tribes. According to police sources, the MP is likely to be produced in court on charges of forgery and human trafficking. The woman has claimed that the MP had allegedly asked for Rs 30 lakh to take her to Toronto and leave her there. She was being taken as a translator. Delhi police chief Dr K K Paul could not be contacted for his statement.
