A case has been registered against 500 unknown people for the murder of an alleged rapist in the infamous Nithari village, a senior police official said on Wednesday.

Unidentified people were charged with culpable homicide and rioting for beating to death Arjun, who was accused of raping the daughter of his landlord yesterday, Superintendent of Police (City) V Yadav said.

The FIR was registered at the Noida Sector 20 police station. So far no arrests have been made.

As the incident came to light on Tuesday, locals caught hold of Arjun and beaten him black and blue before handing over to police in a serious condition after which he was admitted to a local hospital.

His condition worsened in the afternoon and was shifted to a hospital in Ghaziabad where he succumbed to his injuries.

Nithari has been in news for the last three months after a shocking incident of serial killings of children and women was unearthed.
