Assam: 12 injured in Guwahati blast

At least 12 persons were injured, two of them critically when suspected militants of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom detonated a bomb at busy Kedar Road in Fancy Bazar area in the heart of Guwahati city at around 6.30 pm on Tuesday.

At least one of the critically injured persons was feared to die in hospital later. However, the police was yet to confirm the death.

The explosion that took place just four days ahead of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to the city sent the police into a tizzy.

Police informed that the bomb was suspected to be planted along the road. All the injured were ruished to hospital even as senior police officials cordoned off the area immediately after the explosion.

The banned ULFA yesterday called for a state-wide bandh on Wednesday to register its protest against 'police atrocities' on fasting wives of six ceratin senior ULFA leaders who had allegedly gone untraced after their handover to India by Bhutan following their capture by Royal Bhutan Army in Bhutan in December, 2003.
