Gujarat: Assembly adjourned over relief package
September 19, 2006 12:35 IST
The Gujarat Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes on Tuesday, as chaos broke out over State Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel's remarks over the prime minister's 'slim' relief package to the state.
Congress members became agitated when Patel said Dr Singh did not announce a substantial relief package for Gujarat.
Replying to his charge, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Arjun Modhvadia said that the state government is yet to give a proper assessment of the damage caused by the flood.
"Let the government give proper statistics, then the prime minister will give an appropriate package," Modhvadia said.
Following this exchange, members from both sides started shouting, causing the Speaker to adjourn the House for 30 minutes.
