Two army soldiers were killed and two others wounded when an infuriated soldier opened fire at his colleagues inside a camp in Tangdhar sector near the LoC on Saturday night.

Police sources said the trooper had a heated exchange of words with his colleagues, following which he ran amuck, took out his service rifle and fired indiscriminately.

"Two army soldiers, including a non-commissioned officer, died on the spot while two others were critically wounded. They had to be airlifted to Srinagar [Images] for special treatment," a police officer said.

He said the irate soldier was overpowered by other troopers and was arrested.

Defence spokesman Hemant Juneja evening while confirming the incident on Sunday said, "It was the result of negligent handling of weapon by the trooper and action has been initiated in the matter."

Such killings take place in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] from time to time and, among other reasons, constant deployments hostile conditions and long separations from families have been cited.
