53 trapped in Jharkhand mine

Fifty-three people were feared trapped inside a Bharat Coke and Coal Limited mine at Bhat-Dhi near Dhanbad due to water-logging after an explosion inside the mine on Wednesday.

According to official sources, after a detonation near one of the walls inside -- water entered the mine and flooded it.

"About 53 miners are feared trapped inside," the sources added.

BCCL Chairman and Managing Director Partho Bhattacharya confirmed the report.

A rescue team has left Dhanbad for Bhat-Dhi to undertake rescue operation.
