September 06, 2006 14:39 IST

A Sikh doctor in Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, who quit his job over pressure to remove his turban and cut his hair is now unable to leave the kingdom.

Dr Charanjit Singh was allegedly pressurised to cut his hair and take off his turban, which he refused to do, Arab News reported.

He left the job to join another hospital, where he facedĀ a similar situation, and now wants to return to India.

Dr Singh, however, is unable to return as the recruitment agent who arranged his employment, is holding back his passport. The Indian embassy said it did not have any information related to the case.
