Curfew was relaxed for 12 hours from 7 am on Tuesday in Mangalore and three other places hit by communal violence, which claimed two lives in the last few days.

However, the administration has decided to continue the night curfew from 7 PM to 7 AM for two days from Tuesday, District Superintendent of Police B Dayanand told PTI.

The curfew was in force since Thursday last in Mangalore, its rural limits, Konaje and Ullal.

Barring the assault on a youth who received a head injury on Monday, the situation during the curfew relaxation period had been peaceful in all curfew-bound areas, Dayanand said.

Violence broke out on Wednesday last after Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a vehicle carrying cattle to a slaughterhouse.
