Bye-elections have been announced for the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh, a seat vacated by state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Among the Congress nominees for the seat is Nagma, a south Indian actress who is now a big star in Bhojpuri movies.

Speaking to rediff.com on phone from Delhi on Monday, she said: "I am very happy to be nominated by the Congress party to contest the Lok Sabha elections. It is up to Sonia Gandhi [Images] to decide whether I am the best candidate for the elections. I will abide by her decision."

Nagma has many Bhojpuri movies on the floor now. She will complete them before deciding her future course of action. Everything depends on her nomination being confirmed by the Congress president. Her star-status in Bhojpuri films will definitely help her prospects in Vidisha. If she contests, she will bring glamour to the elections.

Nagma always insists that she likes to give 100 per cent to whatever she does. So we will have to just wait and see whether she continues as a film star or a politician.

"We will know in a day or two," she said.
