Extradited gangster Abu Salem's [Images] application to enroll in the voters' list in Uttar Pradesh's Nizamabad has been rejected.

His lawyer said he will move court on the matter.

The rejection will be a blow to Salem's dreams of entering the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Nizamabad sub-divisional magistrate Vidya Shankar Singh said he had not been residing in the area for the past 14 years and that he also did he present himself personally for a plea in this regard.

Singh said he had examined the matter thoroughly.

The jailed gangster and one-time associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim [Images], extradited from Portugal along with former Bollywood actress Monica Bedi [Images], had said he wanted to contest the coming assembly elections in the state.
