Five debt-ridden farmers have committed suicides in various parts of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, an NGO claimed on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Pujaji Laxman Chikre, Wasudeo Baliram Deokar and Ramkrishna Jadhav (all in Akola district), Shubhada Sheshrao Raut (Pimpalgaon in Nagpur) and Dyaneshwar Bajirao Dongre (Waki in Amravati).

With five suicides on Sunday, 46 farmers have ended their lives so far this month, Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti said in a release.
