Six years ago, when George W Bush [Images] became President of the United States, there was an air of anxiety in foreign policy circles over the future of India-US relations, which had been given a boost by outgoing President Bill Clinton [Images], a Democrat.

President Bush rewrote history since India and the US have seen their relations reach never-before heights under a Republican regime, the nuclear deal -- path-breaking in many respects - becoming the symbol of the closeness between the two democracies.

How much things have changed between the two nations can be seen from the fact that the anxiety is back on the faces of India's foreign policy mandarins following the Democrats' outstanding show in Tuesday's Congressional elections. They have taken control of the House of Representatives, and are set to dominate the Senate.

Obviously, President Bush's honeymoon is over, the Democrats will not let him have it easy anymore.
