AP: Patil arrives to assess flood damage

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Tuesday arrived in Vijayawada from New Delhi to visit the flood-hit areas for making an assessment of the damage caused by 'Ogni'.

Patil later left for Machilipatnam with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and State Revenue Minister Dharamana Prasada Rao by helicopter.

He will visit some flood affected areas in Krishna district after arriving in Machilipatnam and later conduct an aerial survey in Guntur and Prakasam districts.

Patil will return to Gannavaram airport again in the afternoon, where he will visit a photo exhibition and is likely to address the press, before leaving for New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the state government was likely to present a detailed report to the home minister on the damage caused by the floods, which was estimated at Rs 1,455 crore.
