Quota: Government assures agitating doctors

 The Central government on Monday decided to evolve a strategy whereby both striking doctors and those favouring reservation would get adequate opportunities in their careers.

Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] met at his residence 7, Race Course Road on Monday evening, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the mechanism to address the grievances of the agitating doctors was being worked out.

He, however, refused to set a timeframe for the working out of the mechanism.

The defence minister clarified that he government's resolve to go ahead with the reservation as per the amendments in the Constitution.

He appealed to the agitating doctors to resume their studies and work in view of the meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Political Affairs.
