"The doctors are very depressed," a senior doctor at the Hinduja Hospital told rediff.com.  "When he stabilised after recovering from the operation theatre there was some hope. But it was a very difficult case. He had a cardiac arrest a little while ago."

Doctors at the Hinduja Hospital allowed family members to see the BJP general secretary at the Intersive Care Unit on Wednesday morning.

Mahajan continues to be on enhanced ventilator support after his Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome worsened on Tuesday, making it difficult for him to breathe, sources at Hinduja Hospital said.

Mahajan has been on ventilatory, ionotropic and dialysis support for the past few days.

The sources said G Daver and his team of doctors is monitoring Mahajan's health 'minute by minute.'

The medical bulletin on Mahajan's health condition is expected after 3 pm, they added.

Meanwhile, Pravin Mahajan was today remanded to judicial custody till May 17. Pravin was earlier in police custody and has been remanded to judicial custody for the first time.

Pravin, who was arrested on April 22, was produced before a Magistrate in Bhoiwada court amid tight security.
