Manjula, the wife of slain Indian engineer K Suryanarayana, attempted to commit suicide on Monday evening. She has been hospitalised in Hyderabad after she drank Phenyl.

She was given a stomach wash and is now said to be out of danger.

Suryanarayana, who was working with a telecom project in Afghanistan, was abducted and killed by the Taliban. His body, found on Sunday morning, is being flown from Delhi to Hyderabad on Monday evening. He is survived by Manjula, their three children and his parents.

In a dramatic twist to the tragedy, a woman claiming to be Suryanarayana's second wife arrived in Hyderabad on Monday and has demanded a stake in the compensation being given.
