Reversing his earlier decision to keep off the electoral fray, Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) president K Muraleedharan has announced his candidature from the Koduvally assembly seat in Kozhikode district of Kerala [Images].

The DIC (K) Parliamentary Board meeting on Thursday cleared the candidature of Muraleedharan, son of party supremo K Karunakaran.

Muraleedharan told media persons that DIC(K) would strive for the victory of the Congress-led United Democratic Front with which his party had struck seat adjustments. Koduvally was offered to the DIC(K) by the Indian Union Muslim League as a special gesture towards the Karunakaran-led party.

IUML, which won Koduvally last time, had played a crucial role in bringing the DIC-K to the UDF camp. In exchange, the DIC(K) has given the North Wayanad seat to IUML. The DIC(K) had earlier announced candidates for 17 seats allotted to it.
