TN: 375 unlicensed guns collected

Prior to the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, 375 guns without licenses have been surrendered in the different police stations in Dharmapuri, District Collector M Chandrashekharan said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at a camp arranged for distribution of Electoral Photo Identity Cards, Chandrashekaharan said that as many as 550 licenses have also been issued for gun holders of the district so far. He added that the administration was confident of distributing identity cards to 95 percent of voters.

Around 4,18,000 voters would be distributed cards till March 21 and the rest would be covered before April 7, he said.

As many as 1177 polling booths would be set up for the five assembly constituencies in the district. Around 1525 electronic voting machines were required, he said, adding another 300 would be kept as standby.
