March 02, 2006 20:01 IST

United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani Thursday separately called on visiting US President George W Bush in New Delhi.

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma and former Indian ambassador to US Karan Singh accompanied Sonia to the meeting.

US Ambassador to India David Mulford and Indian Ambassador to US Ronen Sen were present at the meetings with both the leaders.

Both Sonia and Advani are understood to have discussed bilateral relations and international issues with Bush.

Advani is also understood to have recalled his visit to the US as deputy prime minister and the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit and interactions with the American top brass.
