Should women be allowed in Sabarimala?

Kannada actor Jayamala's reported revelation that she had touched the idol of Lord Ayyappa at the Sabarimala temple in 1987 -- when she was 27 -- has sparked a row.

Women between the ages 10 and 50 are not allowed inside the Sabarimala temple.

The head priest of the temple has said he will take legal action against the actor.

Jayamala, meanwhile, has said she has since realised her mistake only now and has sent an apology to the temple authorities.

What do you think of the issue? Did Jayamala sin by entering the temple? Or do you think there is no rationale in following practices that are centuries old in this day and age? Should religions take a re-look at such practices and do away with them if they deem it fit?
