The LTTE has apologised for killing former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and urged India to forgive and forget in order to facilitate the peace process in Sri Lanka [Images].

The Sri Lankan government too wants India to get involved in the process.

But New Delhi -- which had earlier burnt its fingers by sending peacekeeping troops to resolve the crisis -- believes that by talking to the Tigers, it would be giving legitimacy to an outfit it has banned as a terrorist outfit.
