The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that fresh counseling be held for admission to MBBS course under the all-India quota for which the Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the entrance exams.

A vacation bench comprising Justice A R Lakshmanan and Justice Altamas Kabir also cancelled the counseling done by the authorities while entertaining a petition by a successful candidate who had pointed out that the names of 25 students were not included in the merit list despite qualifying in the entrance tests.

The court said fresh counseling will start on Monday and the authorities will publish the order of the court in the newspapers as well as inform the candidates individually.

The CBSE has also been directed to publish the fresh merit list on its website by Thursday.

During the hearing, CBSE had agreed that the names of 25 successful candidates were not included in the list and said it was due to technical fault in tabulation.

There are 1,654 seats under the all-India quota of medical colleges.
