Robbers raped and murdered a maid servant before decamping with cash and valuables worth over Rs 26 lakhs from an apartment at Charkop in suburban Kandivali of north Mumbai, today, police sources said.

The 35-year-old maid servant was found dead when the owner of the house returned home this morning, police said
adding Rs 24 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.7 lakh were found missing from the apartment, they said.

The owner of the flat had gone out of the town for two days and had left the house under the responsibilty of the
maid servant, police added.
