Is the government right in blocking Web sites?

July 19, 2006

A few days after seven blasts on Mumbai's suburban trains killed about 200 people, the telecom department directed all the 150 operational Internet Service Providers to block 18 Web sites, citing an increase in hate messages on the Internet.

Terror groups, the government said, could use these Web sites to communicate and spread provocative messages.

But the move has bloggers fuming, as blogger.com was one of the blocked sites.

Most of them feel that their freedom of expression and speech has been curtailed.

What do you think? Is the government right in blocking these sites or do has it infringed the fundamental right to freedom of expression? Tell us.
