Pakistan on Monday said it was still weighing its options to field a candidate to the post of United Nations secretary general, for which India has nominated Shashi Tharoor.

"About Pakistan's position, the matter is under consideration," Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told reporters when asked if Islamabad was mulling to field journalist-turned diplomat Maleeha Lodhi, who is currently its envoy to London [Images], for the post as was speculated in the media.

"The consultations (among UN members countries) for the secretary general's post begins on July 15. There is no deadline to propose candidature. There is a possibility that many candidates would emerge," she said.

In response to another query, she denied reports that Pakistan mulled a change in the format of the composite dialogue process with India or pruned the issues listed in it.
