The capital received its first monsoon showers on Sunday, bringing cheer to Delhiites who had been reeling under hot and humid conditions for the past few days.

The weather office said parts of the capital have been receiving light monsoon shower since late Sunday morning.

Delhiites had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the monsoon, which had missed its June 29 date with the capital.

Monsoon had hit the shores of Kerala [Images] a week ahead of schedule on May 24. Mumbai also received monsoon showers ten days in advance but it entered a weak phase on June 8 and was sluggish in its northward advance.
