The Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking suspended its operations on Sunday, following the protests over the alleged desecration of the bust of Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray's late wife.

Buses have been taken off their routes since 2 pm till  'the situation improves in the city', adding that those buses which are already enroute will, however, reach their destinations, BEST PRO A S Tamboli told PTI.

A bust of Meenatai, the late wife of Thackeray, was allegedly desecrated by unidentified miscreants Sunday morning, sparking violent protests by Shiv Sainiks who torched a bus as police used teargas to disperse the protestors.
