Orissa Governor Rameshwar Thakur has taken additional charge as governor of Andhra Pradesh following the resignation of Sushil Kumar Sambhaji Rao Shinde on his induction into the Union Cabinet.

Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice G S Sanghvi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thakur at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Chief Minster Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, AP Congress president K Keshav Rao and senior officials were present.

Shinde, who had taken over as governor in October 2004, had faxed his resignation to President A P J Abdul Kalam from Mumbai on Saturday night before reaching New Delhi on Sunday to take oath as Union minister for power.
