TN: 1 killed, 290 injured in taming the bull ceremonies

One person died and more than 290 were injured in the jallikattu (taming the bulls) ceremony at various places in Madurai district, police said on Sunday.

Police said the 30-year-old man hailing from Mooduvarpatti in the district was gored by a bull while participating in the event at the Palamedu temple on Sunday.

He succumbed to his injuries in hospital, the sources said, adding that 202 were also injured on Sunday.

93 people were injured in the jallikattu on Saturday evening at Avaniyapuram and Thirumangalam in the district.

Police said nearly 400 bulls from Virdhunagar, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul and Sivagangai districts were used in the event.
