A date with the Taj

Princess Diana visited India's monument of love, all by herself, when she and Prince Charles visited India in February 1992.

For weeks after her solo visit to arguably the most romantic symbol of our planet -- Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal's memory -- the British press speculated over Charles' absence that day. Charles incidentally had seen the Taj in November 1980.

Diana's solo trip to the Taj was as historic as Jacqueline Kennedy's date with the Taj in March 1962. The then American First Lady opted to see the Taj twice, once by moonlight. Alone. Unlike Charles, her husband John Fitzgerald Kennedy was not in India during her visit.
