Major fire in Kolkata's Burra Bazar; none hurt

Several small plywood factories and godowns spread over 20,000 square feet area near the city's business hub Burrabazar were reduced to ashes early today in a devastating fire, Fire Brigade sources said.

Thirty-two fire tenders and about 300 personnel were rushed to the area to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the congested Burrabazar area, they said, adding that, it took them about four hours to control the blaze.

There was no report of any casualty, the sources said.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage are being ascertained, sources added.
