China has banned the import of a particular batch of 'Gentlease infant milk powder' produced by a US-based company since it contained unidentified metal particles.

In an emergency circular, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine ordered Friday that all localities step up supervision of the import of the milk powder manufactured by Mead Johnson Corporation with batch number 'BMJ 19'.

An official with the quarantine administration said the US quarantine administration has announced a recall of the product due to unidentified metal particles contained in the milk power.

The administration ordered strict checking of other milk powders produced by US Mead Johnson Corporation on Chinese market.

The circular suggested that those who have bought 'Gentlease Milk Powder' should stop immediately stop giving it to their babies.
