Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's family has declined the posthumous award of Bharat Ratna.

Minister of State for Home Manikrao Gavit told this while replying to a question wherein the MP had asked the names of the persons who have surrendered, or declined to accept, the award.

He said the Bharat Ratna, which is awarded for exceptional service towards the advancement of art, literature and science, and in recognition of public service of the highest order, had not been conferred on any person during the last three years.

The prime minister makes the recommendations for the award to the President.
