Former deputy chief of armed forces Lt Gen R F Kadyan on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking to stop the headcount of Muslims in the defence services.

Lt Gen (retd) Kadyan also urged the apex court to keep the data collected in this regard 'classified'.

The petition was mentioned before a Bench of Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice S H Kapadia and Justice C K Thakker.

The Bench asked Kadyan's counsel to file it in the Registry and get it numbered.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
