Varanasi: Suspected LeT operative arrested

A suspected operative of the Laskhar-e-Tayiba militant outfit was arrested by a Kolkata police team in Varanasi, a senior police official said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off by LeT militant Tariq Akhtar, who was arrested in Kolkata on Wednesday, a police team from the city arrested the operative, Abdulla Zubair, from a madrassa on Wednesday night, Anant Dev, Superintendent of Police, said.

A team of Varanasi police has left for Kolkata for interrogation of the operative to find out details of his activities in the city, Dev said. Zubair, a native of Kanhauli village under Mahua police circle area in Bihar, was a student of Islamic theology at the madrassa.
