Slain Uttar Pradesh [Images] lecturer Dr Kavita Rani's brother Satish Malik on Wednesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into his sister's alleged murder.

Rani, a lecturer at the Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut, has been missing since October 23, 2006.

Speaking to rediff.com over phone from his village in Bullandshahar, Malik said he was not satisfied with the Meerut police's investigations.

"They are maligning my sister's character. They say she was blackmailing and had sleazy videos of some ministers. But then the police say they have not found any evidence. The whole investigation is a farce. If there is any evidence, let them tell the whole world," he said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav [Images] rejected the demand for a CBI probe and said that the state police are doing a good job and have arrested three of the four accused.

But Malik is not convinced. "I filed a complaint that my sister was missing. While I filed the complaint with the Bullandshahar police, I was told later that it had been transferred to Meerut without my knowledge.

"My sister had two mobile phones. The police have not given me the call records one of the phones," Malik alleged.

Meerut's Senior Superintendent of Police Navnit Sikera said that it is too early to clear the names of some of the ministers whose names have figured in the investigations.

"But our investigations so far have not revealed anything that would prove their involvement. If we need to talk to them we would do so. As far as the much talked about videos, we would like to find everything that would prove the motive behind the murder.

Right now we are concentrating on finding the body," he said on phone from Meerut.
