'The Dalit movement is much more intense and dangerous now'

The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a chargesheet on Wednesday against 11 persons for their alleged invlovement in the Khairlanji murder case, which provoked a Dalit protest across the state.

The 11 have been chargehseeted under charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly with deadly weapons and outraging the modesty of women.

However, the CBI did not confirm that the victims were raped.

The 15-page chargesheet has been filed in a court in Bhandara in Maharashtra.

Those chargesheeted belong to Kumbi and Kalar communities, which are notified under Other Backward Classes. Investigation against remaining 36 will continue, CBI officials said.

Four members of a Dalit family, including two women, were killed on September 29 at Khairlanji village which subsequently led to a widespread Dalit backlash sparking riots in various parts of the state.
