In two separate messages, President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh [Images] have greeted the nation on the joyous occasion of Christmas that would be celebrated on Monday.

In a message released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan [Images], the President said, "On the happy occasion of Christmas, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all my citizens. As we celebrate Christmas this year, may the spirit and message of this beautiful festival flow into our hearts and minds so that the lamp of love, kindness and compassion glows in every person and peace and goodwill prevail in our midst! On this occasion, let us recall the life of Lord Jesus Christ with reverence."

Dr Singh in his message said that the festival is a joyous occasion not just for the Christians but for people of other faiths as well.

"Exchange of gifts, greetings and other festivities not only reinforce the bonds within one's immediate family but also in the community at large. May the Christmas this year usher in peace, happiness and joy for all," Dr Singh said.
