Pak arrests 12 Indian fishermen

The Pakistan Maritime Agency arrested 12 Indian fishermen on Thursday while 30 Pakistani fishermen and two civilians were released from Gujarat prisons and were on their way to the Wagah border.

The 12 Indians arrested were part of a group of 34 that was fishing in Jakhau Sea.

The PMA also seized four boats, Suleman Jafer, who was among the 22 allowed to return to Okha port in Gujarat, said.

He said the 34 fishermen were on five boats when they were intercepted by Pakistani Maritime officials.

Customs authorities recorded the statements of 22 fishermen on their arrival at Okha port, Jivanlal Jungi, vice-president, Gujarat Fishermen Association, told PTI.

Meanwhile, 30 Pakistani fishermen and two civilians were released from Gujarat jails, a senior state government official said.

He said they were on their way to the Wagah border in Amritsar [Images] to be handed over to Pakistani authorities.

One Pakistani civilian was still in Gujarat jail, the official said.
