August 23, 2006 13:48 IST

A day after resigning from the United Progressive Alliance government, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Chandrasekara Rao began an indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday to press his party's demand for a separate state of Telangana to be carved out of Andhara Pradesh.

Rao, accompanied by scores of TRS activists from Telangana as well as Delhi and four other TRS parliamentarians, started his hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Former Prime Minister V P Singh visited the striking TRS leader to express his solidarity.
