Akola house collapse: 40 feared trapped

August 05, 2006 13:29 IST

Several persons were feared trapped under a building that collapsed due to heavy rains in Akola, Maharashtra, on Saturday.

Rescue operations were on amidst heavy downpour, fire brigade sources said.

About 40 persons resided in the Kothari Bazar building, police said, adding that they still had no idea about the number of people trapped.

Ambulances have also been stationed at the spot, police added.

Heavy rains, accompanied by gusty winds, have been lashing Akola and adjoining areas since Friday night.
