The Bharatiya Janata Party retained Patna (West) Assembly seat for the fifth time in a row on Thursday with party candidate Nitin Navin defeating his nearest Congress rival Rana Ajay Singh by a huge margin of over 60,000 votes.

Out of 5.12 lakh electorate, only 19.85 per cent had exercised their franchise in the April 24 byelection, necessitated by the death of Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha -- father of Nitin Navin.
