Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan's health was "still very critical" and he was on ventilator support and dialysis, the doctors attending on him said on Tuesday.

"He is still very critical. There has been no change in his condition in the last 24 hours," Dr Anupam Verma of the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where the BJP leader is being treated for grievous gunshot wounds, said.

The 56-year-old Mahajan, who was admitted to the hospital on April 22 after he was shot at by his younger brother Pravin, "continues to be on life support system and his ventilation has been stepped up," Verma said reading out the medical bulletin on the condition of the BJP leader.

Pointing out that Mahajan was under severe sedation, Verma said his condition was being continuosly monitored by a team of surgeons and intensive care specialists.

"We are taking things on an hour-to-hour basis" and there has been no improvement.
